Alternative fastlane database is great, yes. Almost every GPL related file from SRMZ is already uploaded there.
At SRMZ there were also some (very few, really) downloads for other sims like rF1, NR2003 and of course GTR2/P&G (P&G LODs by jgf and P&G track pack by sunalp2 is what comes to my mind now).
I possibly have a lot of those in storage. I do intend to get everything online but time is the enemy.

Fairly sure no NR2003 or GTR2 stuff is lost in SRMZ being potentially lost. rF1 mods are a little bit, as I think a lot of people expected rFC to continue being operational and since NoGrip went away they were the only major source.

Can anyone involved confirm how much WIP was lost, how much was backed-up elsewhere, and if the mods that were being worked on can still be completed at some point in the future? I'm not hassling anyone, just concerned and would like to know.
I can give my view of that. The GPL Repository (a sub-forum of SRMZ) is the site where group or team development took place. There were also individual efforts ongoing. There is a very huge trove of information, photos, drawings, work sketches, pieces of 3D objects ... the list goes on.
The 'big deal' is that all of that Car Mod and Track work has come to either a screeching halt or at least dramatically slowed. There were personal forums that contained discussions among members about progress in design, future updates, where to find period info/photos, etc.
We are fortunate to have had members construct a stand-alone web site where we are slowly putting forums in place to get back to work. Besides the wheel spins by some of us ... there are still missing members who we either cannot contact or who maybe have thrown in the towel.
I have encountered my own personal struggle that just happens to coincide with our 'GPL home' going missing. My apartment lease is coming up for renewal at the end of May. They are increasing monthly rent to $1500/mo. Which is up $300 from last year - add the increase of $200/mo the previous year and I cannot meet the per/mo finances. I am 72 years old with a social security income less than the new rent and an almost dry retirement account that I placed in savings last year. My latest prospects are to go back to work or start living in my car ... as I am currently in the cheapest apartments in the county. Oh, well ... there are millions in the same situation, I'm sure.
That sucks.

Shouldn't be legal to increase rents above inflation, but I guess this past year they can say they're only doing that!

Hi Pete, yeah, I have applied at four HUD section 8 apartment buildings. I should have seen the writing on the wall and done the applications a year or so ago. I've already gotten replies from three (the fourth gave me a set interview date - good) which say that I qualify. So, that's good. The downer is that three have 3-4 year wait lists and the fourth is 12-14 months. I also checked for places in the adjacent counties - there were only one in each of them, with wait lists there too.
I have worked out that if I secure a part-time job, that even minimum wage will fill the shortfall in rent from my social security. I have a little left in savings to hopefully get me to the point of starting a job. The increase in income will not push me above the section 8 limit and also those of our age (65+) are not penalized in our ss income.
It's risky, but I will renew my lease and keep applying to part time jobs - cashier at Aldi's, greeter for Bass Pro, sales rep in Office Depot, etc. Thanks guys for your thoughts!!
So you editor guys stay here now or there is some other new forums that can have file attachments?
I think I lost lots of stuff that were at the Repository...

John.
... Before we starting guiding others here and making this the new home of the community, perhaps we should ask Stefan if he actually wants that?
Thank you for your trust.
Yes, that's fine with me.
As you may know, the domain owner of GPLRACER is Michael Kaulfuss ("Kauli") who unfortunately passed away unexpectedly at the end of January 2023. I knew Kauli since 2004 shortly after he founded GPLRACER.
I have full access to the domain provider's customer menu and my bank details have been on file for several years. That means I pay GPLRACER, and have full access, but am not the owner.
I am currently clarifying with the provider how I can take over Kauli's contract/domains and become the owner of GPLRACER. The GPL Alternative Forum is a subforum.
I will keep you informed.

Is there anyone who has Bill Cooper's phone number in the USA?
My telephone contact with Bill was always through Bo Bruce, who unfortunately is also no longer with us.
Bill didn't communicate with us admins often, but such a long break is unusual. I hope Bill is well.
If anyone has a phone number for Bill, please contact me via PM.
Thanks.

Post attachments in PMs?
A critical feature?
Maybe a whole new forum? New name, modern features? SEO?
A front page that maybe looks more like the srmz Articles section?
An LLC or something like, that would continue regardless of one person?
This could be an opportunity to step things up a bit?
Thanks to all who are stepping up already.
Would appreciate PM from anyone working on GPLLINKS.ORG GitHub page, or who could if invited.

Hey Guys,
Its been a while since I have posted anything but have been following the developments here.
I am sad to see the old site go away, I know there was a gold mine of info there that has been lost and would like to know if you guys would like any info that I have?
Mostly old videos and pictures of cars from the 1920's through 1955. I fortunately keep backups of backups and would be more than happy to upload anything I have to help out.
I doubt I can help with actual GPL files as I have GPL installed with all the updates and mods on my old Windows machine which I fire up every now and then just to run GPL. I doubt I have anything you guys don't already have. (I currently use Linux as my main PC).
Not sure if what I have will actually help but you are more than welcome to any or all of it.
I am glad to see a lot of old familiar names here and am glad you all are trying to restore what was lost. I was really hoping SRMZ was only going to be down temporarily but its looking more and more like it is gone.
Anything I can do to help just let me know.
Cheers,
Bob
Pete & Greg....man, when things get hard, they get very hard. Sorry for what you both are experiencing.
No computer literacy beyond turning it on and off but glad to help in any way I can.

Thanks for that but i'm fine. I actually like where I live. This is the first apartment I ever lived in and at an older age it's ideal. I always lived in a house before and it would be a struggle to take care of a house now. Plus, i'd be alone. I have lot's of company now and for holidays they have a big dinner for us. We have a good manager and a maintenance man who lives in the building. So, he's always available to fix whatever problems we have. I have a friendly 100 lb pitbull who loves everybody. Getting in and out of the building takes awhile because everybody has to pet him. He's like a therapy dog for them.
I like it here and i'm sure i'll live out my life here. Hopefully, Greg can find a building like this one.
