I thought Tim always owned RSC?
Well guys. I can feel it in my bones. SRMZ is gone. I think Bill feels bad and doesn't want to tell us.
I hope i'm wrong.

As far as I know he did. But the RSC we all remember is just that, a memory.
I hope that isn't the case with SRMZ (if it still exists and is just offline perhaps someone will buy it, even if just to preserve as an archive).
I left in 2005 when I started working for iRacing (to avoid any perceived conflict of interest). The guys I gave it to didn't do backups locally, and the host messed up so they lost it. They then sold it to Ignite GT (who were making SimRaceWay and the wheels associated to them). I got it back in 2019. Everything in-between wasn't me. Since 2019 it's been only me.
How long are you going to wait for Bill before you get RSC going again Tim?

I already have. If SRMZ comes back ill happily just be a mirror, too.
Hi Bill,
I hope you are doing fine and that, whenever time allows, we will get to hear from you again.
Until then, I can only be grateful for how much you've given to us day after day, year after year through SRMZ and many other sites/services key to this lovely community of ours.
And all in exchange for nothing (or very little donations)!
No matter how short or long this hiccup lasts. Our debt with you is like our appreciation for you: Forever.
Cheers,
Gaizka

I can only echo Gaizka's post above.
But the GPL community needs a sign which can at least point us in the direction best served to keep the sim alive. I sincerely hope SRMZ returns and Bill will post here to give us an update along with any (If necessary) steps we could all take to ensure its continuation into the future. But a 25 year old sim is nothing without the community. I have no idea how many members this forum has currently and how that compares with the active SRMZ membership. We have a lot of dedicated GPL sites, perhaps now is the time to centre future GPL activity on one of these?

I'm in agreement with you John.
The community ensured SRMZ kept running, firstly by donating to ensure Bill had enough funds to pay for the server, secondly by creating new content and thirdly by keeping the discussion going with new posts/threads. It seems that Stefan has the first of those covered for now, so the best thing people can do, in my opinion, is to make an effort to re-build up the community here and get some discussions going and keep sharing content.
Unfortunately forums are no longer the dominant form of social media and haven't been since around 2008/2009 when Facebook and twitter started to become universal. I feel trying to create rival forums at this time or trying to get people to move from here to elsewhere is only going to water down the community further.

I do hope we do not go down the Facebook route. I have so far resisted the need for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. I abandoned my attempt to set up a facebook account several years go when I paid some attention to exactly what personal information they wanted me to provide along with the permissions to my data they wanted to be able to access. Call me paranoid and I'm sure the internet already knows far more about me than I'm comfortable with but I'm not making it even easier for them. I do hope we (if it comes to that) we remain on a dedicated forum. I would trust Stefan or ptracer with any information I provide far more than MS or Elon Musk.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! I also don't want to move to Facebook, I have little interest in it nowadays and barely use it. There is a Grand Prix Legends FB group with over 4500 members but over 90% of the posts are unrelated to the game, so much better to have a dedicated forum.
Before we starting guiding others here and making this the new home of the community, perhaps we should ask Stefan if he actually wants that?
