Even when it was up, I couldn't expand any of the rank listings using the '+' anyway. *Sigh*

At WEEKLY I had the answer:

I am in that group & therefore in touch with Uwe: “We're down for now“.

There have been people working at GPLRank server recovery some time ago...
Seems very likely there are many GPLers who are not as active on-line as those of us who are everyday here wondering what is going on.

Maybe they are not aware of this forum or what is going on at all.

Guessing those who race on-line already know there is life after SRMZ, but otherwise there are likely many who have no idea what has happened.

Perhaps a good idea to reach out to GPL friends we know, have an e-mail address for them, and can get in contact with them and steer them here or Fastlane?

That might be a good idea John. Judging by the member count at the Fastlane site it seems word is getting around slowly but surely Smile I've promoted this site and my own in as many places as I can think of and I'm seeing others have already beaten me to it in some cases.

Though perhaps Bill will surprise us with the news that he's been working on a fix behind the scenes for the last two weeks and SRMZ will be back online in no time.
Sorry the sites are still down! A single-file download of GPL with popular mods and tracks, along with a linux installer script, is here: https://github.com/sim-museum/esports-for-engineers

Hello all,

I did decide recently to bring some forums back online on RSC, giving the reasoning here:
https://racesimcentral.net/rsc-comments-...g-matters/

I did try to email Bill, but the email I had for him bounced. I'd be absolutely willing to import the forums and take that load off him if the community was open to it, and have the community come full circle back to RSC.

In the meantime, I could go through and setup forums to match what was up at SRMZ?

Another thing, I do regular backups (and did with RSC before I went to work at iRacing and then everything got lost - sigh). What I'd be able to do is backup to my OneDrive and have a folder on there public where each time I updated the backup anyone would have access to it so we're never in the RSC down, RSC down, SRMZ down, etc type situation again where we honestly don't know if we're ever going to get that data back.

I expect to have to upgrade my hosting package if the forums take off, but that was part of the consideration in recently opening forums again, so no worries.

If you haven't been to RSC recently, well, it's been running since 2019 without forums. I began the process of trying to index every sim, ever, along with every car and every track that was ever in them.

Developers so far: https://racesimcentral.net/developers/
Software so far: https://racesimcentral.net/itm/products-simulation/
Cars so far: https://racesimcentral.net/itm/contents-car/
Tracks so far: https://racesimcentral.net/itm/contents-track/

While I believe places like RaceDepartment have discussions on the newer sims covered, we really have to preserve the knowledge on older sims. For an example of what I want to do with each piece of software, check out the left side (black rectangle) menu for IndyCar Racing (1993) here: https://racesimcentral.net/indycar-racing/

What do you guys think? I don't want to take something away from Bill or for him to feel negative about the experience, and I also wouldn't want to have user data migrated without the OK from users either. My forum actually has an option for a user to manually delete their account without my approval for this reason...

But anyway, have a discussion. I'm here. You can also email me at tim@racesimcentral.net

Cheers,

Tim
Hi there, Tim!  Smile

I do keep myself apprised of developments over at RSC on about a weekly basis.  Anything to avoid the current GPL blackout is most heartily welcome.

Hey Tim!! The Hondaman!! Smile

I would suggest to contact Bill to check if he is willing to give up his sites to RSC. In any case, all the GPL stuff would be in the best hands. Thank you very much for your offer, old friend Smile

Btw, if you don´t know how to contact Bill, I could help if that is the case.
Well, it's going on three weeks since Bill posted here
Someone in touch with him want to contact him again to see if he needs funds, equipment or other things?

This is like living shipwrecked on an island. There are only so many books that I'm interested in reading.

Hi Smile

I emailed what I thought was his email a few days ago, but it bounced. I have DM'd here as well.
